Activities Prior to Workshop | Workshop Agenda Overview | Workshop Outcomes | Detailed Workshop Schedule
Activities prior to the Workshop
All participants will have access to the position papers that were accepted through the workshop forum. In addition, we ask participants to prepare the following for the workshop
- Authors are asked to prepare a brief presentation (5-10 min) summarising their work and position paper to start workshop discussions. Presentations should be in PowerPoint or authors should bring their own laptop.
- Authors should post one question each to the other position papers in their category (see below and workshop forum).
- All participants are asked to bring an artefact (photo, scribble, etc.) that is indicative of their work or their view on online trust and cooperation. We are planning on making creative use of these when designing the workshop poster.

Overview on the Workshop Agenda
The workshop will be grouped around topics for which participants submitted position papers:
- Self-Awareness Mechanisms
- Reparative Mechanisms
- Social Recommender and Matchmaking Mechanisms
- Further Novel Approaches
Each topic will consist of brief presentations of the authors with a group discussion, followed by activities in breakout groups with presentations back to the plenum. The following breakout group activities are planned and participants are encouraged to engage in different activities during the day:
- Design Challenge: For each topic we will prepare a design briefing for a specific application (e.g. encourage knowledge sharing in a consulting firm, design a system for incorporating forgiveness for an online auctioning site). The design briefing will consist of contextual information, scenario and persona descriptions to guide the ad-hoc conceptual design sessions.
- Discussion – Research: Participants in this break out group are encouraged to think about the questions pertaining to specific topics from a research perspective. Examples include a definition of a research agenda, evaluation of appropriate research methods, or the identification of relevant key work in related disciplines
- Discussion – Application: Discussion in this breakout group focuses on the commercial application and viability of the approaches discussed. How can a specific mechanism be integrated in the user-centred development cycle? What is the business case for investigating / implementing it?

Workshop Outcomes
To facilitate dissemination of the workshop results and to encourage an ongoing network of researchers in this field, we will create the following workshop deliverables
- Poster – to be presented at CHI
- Web Site – extended documentation of workshop discussions and outcomes; also entailing a discussion board and mailing list
- Proceedings – workshop proceedings will be handed to participants at the workshop and they will be available from the web site. In addition we are negotiating with publishers with a view to creating a journal special issue.
